About UsPEI Specialty Chowders Inc. has been a labor of love since 2003, when Chef Greg Aitken’s dish took the title of ‘Best Seafood Chowder’ at that year’s PEI Shellfish Festival. His award-winning recipe was requested at family weddings and get-togethers, making it Greg’s signature item. His friends and family convinced him to do some market research to see if there would be enough interest on PEI to sustain a business around his delicious chowder. Based on these requests and positive feedback, Greg embarked on his adventure to bring his specialty chowder to market, but not just on PEI. This gourmet chowder was headed for the export market. The recipe wasn’t developed over night, not by any means. Greg has been working in the fine dining food service industry for almost twenty years. His experiences have led to him choosing more health conscious methods of cooking while using on the very freshest of ingredients. He has a passion for concocting dishes unique to Prince Edward Island, using local and regional products and only natural flavors. Over the years that PEI Specialty Chowders has been in development, Aitken has invested countless hours researching healthy soup and chowder choices. What has been formulated from the results of that research is a premium seafood chowder – the first in its class. The “Häagan Dazs®” of chowders, if you will. Greg acts now acts as production manager and is the head quality management advisor of PEI Specialty Chowders Inc., overseeing the process and ensuring quality control.
